Ottawa City Parking Laws For Large Vehicles

The larger vehicles or larger means of transport, such as the tour buses, the motor homes and more, require different parking requirements for each of them. Ensure that you know about all the specific requirements, so that you will be able to legally and correctly park them in the required areas.

For the motor homes, there aren’t any parking spaces available in Municipal parking lots. That’s why you don’t want to make the mistake and park in an area that you aren’t legally allowed to. You should operate your motor home according to the City’s bylaws, related to traffic and parking on highways.

You can see the City of Ottawa By-Law 2003-530 part 2, Section 18, below.

  • “[No] person shall park a vehicle exceeding six and one-half (6.5) meters in length or a school bus or permit a vehicle exceeding six and one-half (6.5) meters in length or school bus to remain parked on a highway at any time between 9:00 p.m. of one day and 7:00 a.m. of the next following day.” – Subject to subsections (5) and (10).

  • “Subject to the other provisions of this by-law, the provisions of subsection (4), stated above, shall not apply to vehicles exceeding six and one-half (6.5) meters in length or school buses parked on designated truck routes.

  • Permission from the property owner and observation of any restrictions that may have is necessary, when parking your motor home or other large vehicle on private property.
